The first-ever East Bay Yelp Beat and Eats kicked off on Wednesday at Hog’s Apothecary in Temescal and so far diners love what they’re eating and hearing. Beat and Eats week is dedicated to celebrating some of the tastiest food in Oakland, as well as some of the hottest DJs because what’s better than great food and awesome music? The party is at a different restaurant every night through Monday, November 7, so it’s not too late to get in on the fun.
We stopped by Blind Tiger on Thursday night to check out the special menu and listen to DJ Methods spin 90s hip-hop and beyond. Blind Tiger is worth a visit even when there’s not a DJ, but the vibe was especially lively with crowds packing the lacquered picnic tables that sit beneath colorful Japanese lanterns, a local artist working on a wall mural, and music pumping through the room while everyone feasted on pan-Asian inspired tapas and craft cocktails.
The special Eat and Beats menu included ahi tuna poke with avocado, wok charred shishito peppers, spicy Thai pork skewers, and Blind Tiger chicken wings with tiger sauce that were sticky, sweet, and are right up there with some of the best wings we’ve ever eaten in the Bay. It was a total steal at just $35 for two people. Each restaurant is also offering a complimentary chef’s gift with a Yelp check-in; we were gifted Taiwanese Snow Ice and let’s just say there was only a little fighting over who got to lick the bowl.
The fun returns on Saturday at Hutch Bar & Kitchen where there will be tunes from Memphis playing all day and guests can enjoy a special Beat and Eats whiskey flight with paired appetizers (bourbon cured trout, bacon n’ cheese grit croquette, and spiced cracklin’s) for $40. Sunday’s all about ending the weekend with some soul and funk at Bourbon and Beef and Monday night, diners can get down to Latin Beats at Urban Latino.
Check out all of the special menus, DJ line-up, and hours here. And be sure to take lots of photos and share them on social media. #BeatsEatsOak @yelpeastbay
