Who says brunch is just for Mom on Mother’s Day? Okay, maybe only some Dads love brunch but we also know they deserve a great meal any time of day with their loved ones too! Here are five of our favorite spots in the Bay Area to take Dad on Father’s Day this weekend.
For the Dad Who Enjoys a Good Whiskey
What: It’s hard to find good barbecue in San Francisco these days, but Southpaw will stop you in your tracks. $1 Rib Sundays. ‘Nuff said. Well maybe not enough, but that is a steal when we are talking about juicy ribs that Benjamin Thorne (of Sneaky’s BBQ fame) is slingin’ at Southpaw these days. Thorne is known for sippin’ on one of the great whiskeys or bourbons they’ve got on the menu so, if Dad is into that, make a reservation here.
Must haves: $1 ribs, beef brisket, fried pickles.
For the Dad Who Loves to Grill
What: alaMar is one of the hottest restaurant’s in downtown Oakland right now and they are bringing out the big guns (or grills) for dads this weekend! From 11am-3pm you can check out Chief Smoker Jerry Lucas running a special BBQ menu just for this Sunday! Check out the one-time menu here and make a make a reservation here.
Must haves: 8hr smoked beer can chicken, bbq oysters, fried potato “salad.”
For the Baby Boomer Dad
What: In the East Bay and don’t feel like driving into the city for Father’s Day? No worries, The Fourth Bore’s got ya covered. If your Dad is the kind of guy who likes a good beer and some great bar food to go with it while the sun is out, then this is the place for him. Their menu of pub food will suit anyone’s needs and their long list of over 28 draft beers gives you tons of options to wash it all down with. If you want a table on the patio, just make a note on your reservation. Make a reservation here.
Must haves: Pulled pork nachos, fourth bore cheesesteak, cheese curds.
For the Visiting Dad
What: Pizza is loved by all, so what’s not to love when it’s paired with a beautiful view of the marina? Forge Pizza is located right on the water in Oakland’s lively Jack London Square and it couldn’t be more gorgeous on a Sunday. They have bomb-dot-com pizza and health options for those watching what they eat. Also, if you bring your own bottle of wine, the corkage fee is only $15! Nothing beats a spot on the patio at sunset by the fire with a glass of wine in-hand sitting right next to your pops. Make a reservation.
Must haves: Margherita pizza, Magnolia’s “PROVING GROUND” IPA, mussels.
For the Fun Dad
Where: Mission Bowling Club
What: Who doesn’t love a good bowling game? Mission Bowling Club is one of the only places in San Francisco where you can make a reservation for brunch and reserve a lane, all in one place. This place has a killer brunch, is vegan friendly, and is open to all ages on Sundays. Also, if you order something with a star next to it on the menu, $1 of your spend will go to a local non-profit. Giving back while chowing on some good grub always feels good, especially when you’re with family! There aren’t many lanes so be sure to make a brunch reservation here and a lane reservation here.
Must haves: Mondo michelada, chilaquiles, fried chicken and waffles.
